I started drawing these little characters, hundreds of them in teeny tiny long rows, on my Ipad Pro while my Wife was pregnant with our daughter, Isabel. I pictured that one day I would get a large-format print out the size of a billboard in the subway, with thousands of these tiny monsterz on it, for Her bedroom wall.

Isabel was born with a rare liver condition that required an extremely specialized surgery. Drawing away, Adding to the collection, it kept my creative juices flowing and my feelings out of the dark places while Isabel was in the hospital. She’s 2-and-a-half now and totally fine, thanks to the awesome care she continues to receive at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

I included a page of these Monsterz in the first issue of my members-exclusive art magazine and I had enough people say that they wanted to wear a t-shirt of the monsterz that I knew I had to make one. And then I thought that releasing it as a fundraiser for SickKids Hospital would be absolutely Poetic.
